Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do when my duffbag gets really mucky?
Duff bags should get mucky if they are being used, we like that. Which is why we have designed the bags to be turned inside out, given a good shake and then hosed down and then left to dry.

They dry really quickly due to the coating on the material. You can add a little washing up liquid and give the bag a scrub with a brush, if the grime is really bad.

Are your bags waterproof?
Waterproof is one of those words, that means many thing to many people. Our bags will resist water from the outside due to the special coating we apply to the material. The PVC liner is designed to contain water in normal use.

Duff bags are not dry bags, they will keep your kit dry in reasonable conditions but if you take it white water rafting your kit may get a little damp.

In extreme testing we did manage to fill a bag up with water from a hosepipe, there was a bit of leakage from the seams but it filled up faster than it leaked. So do summarise they are quite water resistant and do a good job of keeping wet gear and car interiors separate but are not good for keeping goldfish in.

Will you do a bag for my team or club?
We do lots of team bags for groups and clubs, just drop us an email and we will get back to you pretty quickly. We have no minimum quantity but if you want a one off it is going to cost a lot more than if you order 30

Why are your bags green?
We like the colour! We tested a lot of colours before going for green, we found green showed the dirt less and had a certain rugged look and was different to the bright colours or black favoured by products.

Aren't your duffbag classics just Army kit bags?
we have heard this one a few times, plus "I don't need one of those I still have mine that was issued in 1962".

Whilst the shape is the style you will find used by armed forces worldwide, the material we use is very different.

Army kit bags are generally canvas and made as cheaply as possible. Trouble is as soon as you put wet kit inside, the moisture soaks through and transfers to the boot of your car leaving either a white salt stain or muddy mess.

Our bags are made from hi-tech 600d Nylon that has especial water resistant coating that beads water on the surface and let's it run off.

The inside of the bags have a special PVC lining that keeps muck and moisture in place.

We use herringbone webbing that is like car seat belt material, not cheap sports bag webbing and then it is all carefully sewn together, complete with changing mat and shoe pocket.

Put our bag next to an army kit bag and compare the workmanship and materials and you will see the difference.

Why are you called duffbag?
Duffbag is a play on the original duffel bag, which takes it's name from the town of Duffel in Belgium.

The town of Duffel was where the tough canvas to make the original cylindrical sea bags or holdalls was made hence these bags became known generically as duffel bags, as in bags from Duffel. We just shortened it down to duffbag as it was easier to say.

What size bike can I fit in your bike bags?
We have three sizes of bike bags;

Monster bag - for full suspension mountain bikes with big bars. Designed to take a bike with the rear wheel on and the front wheel removed. Not suitable for bikes with triple crown forks as you need to rotate the bars to get the bike in.

Race bag - for smaller mountain bikes XC bikes and road bikes. Same design as the Monster only slightly smaller. For scale we have had an Orange 5 full susser in the bag, it is a bit snug but does fit.

Stealth bag - you have to quite a bit of dismantling with this - bars off, wheels off, pedals off, but once you have done this it really does pack down small.

Can I take my bag on a plane?
Bikes and planes really don't mix, well bikes and planes are OK it is the baggage handlers that are the problem.

Our bags are not padded by design, they are made for carrying dirty bikes to and from rides. Further to this if you travel with a great big padded bag what do you do with it the other end? They just get in the way.

If we need to pad our bags for travel what we do is use bubble wrap around the delicate bits and then reinforce the outside with cardboard.

This gets thrown away when we get to our destination and then replaced locally for the return trip. The bag then folds up to a little larger than a magazine and can be tucked away out the way. So yes you can travel on planes with our bags, you just need to think it through in a slightly different way.

A bright and early, minus 5 degrees start saw us teetering down crispy trails, carefully choosing lines that avoided the ice. Five minutes in our confidence picked up as it was nowhere near as slippy as it looked and there was plenty of grip as the tyres bit through the top layer of powdery snow. [...]more
